About LURC

La Trobe University Rowing Club

Welcome to LURC

Our aim at La Trobe University Rowing Club (LURC) is to promote the sport of rowing, competition and good sportsmanship across all levels of ability from raw beginners to elite. Whilst fostering the development of rowing with both past and present La Trobe students and staff, we’re also open to the wider public and provide opportunities to row socially or competitively at all levels of competition.

However LURC isn’t all about competition; the Club also encourages the social development and interaction of its members to support long lasting friendships and provides the facilities, skill base and a comfortable environment in which to pursue the sport of rowing, whatever your goals may be.

Anyone interested in finding out more about our Club or rowing in general, whether you’ve picked up an oar a thousand times or never, feel free to contact any of our committee members or drop by our rowing sheds sometime.

Our Club

La Trobe University Rowing Club, or La Trobe University Boat Club as it was originally known, was officially formed in 1968 and it celebrated its 50th anniversary during the 2018/2019 rowing season. For its entire history the Club has provided an opportunity for all members of the community, Latrobe University students or not, to participate and compete in rowing.

With the outstanding support of its current and past committee members, we now have one of the best fleets of any club of our size. Accordingly the Club is now ideally placed to grow and expand its crews and hopefully succeed at state, national and intervarsity championships.

La Trobe University Rowing Club respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land and waterway on which we meet and row, the Boonwurrung and Woiwurrung (Wurundjeri) language peoples of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge their elders past, present and emerging, and their ways of knowing, being and doing.
